Boxer Adoption Resources

One of the biggest decisions when deciding to get an additional family member is whether to buy or adopt a Boxer. There are many resources available for those looking to adopt a Boxer that can help you make this important decision. This article identifies and describes sites and organizations that anyone wanting to adopt a Boxer should definitely take a look at.

American Boxer Rescue Assoc.
One of the main organizations for rescue of the Boxer breed is the American Boxer Rescue Assoc. (ABRA). The ABRA assists in the rescue of purebred Boxer rescue by coordinating the efforts of different breeders, clubs and organizations in rescue Boxers in a humane way. The ABRA is a non-profit organization and is formed only to assist in the welfare of the Boxer breed.

The ABRA lists a variety of information for the general public. One of the most useful resources is a listing of ABRA approved organizations. This is a comprehensive listing of organizations that are approved by the ABRA and operate according to their guidelines. Although this list does not include every legitimate Boxer rescue, it is a great place to start.

One thing missing from the ABRA site is information about the Boxer breed. It would be a nice addition for the organization to include articles for the general public about rescuing a Boxer. Some article examples that would be great is the benefits of rescuing a Boxer and how to select a rescue organization. The addition of educational articles would add so much benefit to an already great site and organization.

Boxer Rescue Foundation
The Boxer Rescue Foundation (BRF) is setup to provide financial assistance for Boxers in foster care. The BRF is a non-profit organization and disburses funds through the giving of Grants. Financial Records for the organization is provided online for review.

The BRF raises money in a variety of ways both online and offline. The online activities used to raise money are through the use of online auctions and the Boxer Shoppe store. The online auctions are offered at a variety of times and offer some very unique Boxer items. The Boxer Shoppe features a complete online store of Boxer merchandise. Some of the items offered are magnets, portraits and stationary. The BRF also accepts donations from individuals wanting to assist in the fostering of Boxers.

Missouri Valley Boxer Club
The Missouri Valley Boxer Club is a club dedicated to the Boxer breed for over 30 years. The club is located in Omaha-Lincoln area in Nebraska, but is open to members throughout the US. The site features a several great articles about the Boxer breed that is very helpful to someone that is considering adopting a Boxer. Although the breed is an excellent companion, a future owner should understand the breed and know that they can be demanding.

One of the best features of the site is a section that focuses upon the cost of adopting a new family member. The worksheet lists all the costs that a future owner adopting a Boxer will incur. The total cost for the first month is estimated to be $654 and the total cost for the first year is estimated to be over $1,600. This is something very important to consider before adopting a Boxer that many owners do not consider.

AKC
The AKC offers an excellent tool for assistance in rescuing the Boxer called the Breeder and Rescue referral search. The search allows you to search for contacts that are nominated by AKC club members that will be able to assist you in finding a rescue organization. Some of the contacts are breeders or rescue groups while many are not. The purpose of the contact is to find someone that can assist you in finding a reputable rescue organization in your area.
